WORLD HEALTH AWARDS

THE PROCESS

The application and selection process will be in 3 phases:
Once the application of the nominee is received. The email confirmation of your entry is sent within 24-48hrs

PHASE 1: The World Health Awards are independently judged. Once entries have been received and processed they will be distributed to the judges according to the award category.
PHASE 2: Applications will be screened based on the analysis of data submitted. The analysis will be presented to an independent jury for short listing the participating nominees.
PHASE 3: After receiving the completed nomination forms of shortlisted nominees. The Grand jury will select the winner.

 

TIMELINE

Open –
Entry submission deadline – 15th July
Winner Announcement – 1st August 2017

Following this deadline, the Grand jury will review the nominations; discuss each candidate’s application based on the selection criteria. The WHA jury is not obliged to select an award winner if none of the candidates adequately meet the selection criteria.

The selection committee will notify the winner by 3th of August to assure the winning nominee has sufficient time to plan to attend the World Health Congress in August (21st and 22nd).

The award recognizes the continuous efforts to provide cutting-edge medical assistance in diverse medical departments while bringing together best of the doctors, scientists and clinical researchers to provide expert services in diagnosing, treating and preventing diseases all under one roof.

Eligibilty

♦Experience: The multi-specialty hospital should have minimum seven years experience in discharging the health care in the field of multiple specialty.

♦Bed capacity: The multi-speciality hospital should have minimum 60 indoor bed capacity including the ICCU/NICU/ITCU.

The multispeciality hospital should have capacity to cater all the emergencies in Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, ENT, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Urology, Nephrology, Cardiology, Pulmonology and other branches of medicine.

♦The ICU/NICU/ITCU should be minimum of Ten beds with all the infrastructure and facilities available, equipped with modern instruments and compatible with all norms and standards of ICU/NICU/ITCU. It should have following minimum standards :-

(a) Every bed should be equipped with central oxygen supply facility with separate monitor facility, preferably connected to central monitor. It should be supported by pulse oxymeter, syringe pump facility and defibrillator. The unit should be equipped with ventilator facility at least two nos. and one haemodialysis machine.

(b) The Unit i.e. ICCU/NICU/ITCU must have round the clock trained doctors available on call having minimum post graduation in respective speciality i.e. medicine, anesthesia, surgery, paediatrics, etc. This should be followed strictly.

(c) The unit should have well trained MBBS doctors and qualified paramedical staff to handle the emergency, critical care patients round the clock as per the norms.

♦The hospital should have the ambulance facility of their own and one of them should be equipped with critical care facility manned by trained and qualified doctor and para medical staff whenever required.

♦They should have their own PAN number and Income-tax clearance certificate at least for past three years.

♦The Super-speciality Hospitals, like, cardiology, gastro-enterology and neurology should comply with the standards laid down for the respective speciality.
They should have their own cardiac cath Lab., Operation Theater compatible with cardiac surgeries, neuro-surgeries, endoscopy, ERCP, Laparoscopy etc.

♦Endoscopic / Laparoscopic Surgery: Hospital should have facilities for casualty/emergency ward, full-fledged ICU, proper wards, proper number of nurses and paramedical, qualified and sufficient number of Resident doctors/specialists.
The surgeon should be Post Graduate with sufficient experience and qualification in the specialty concerned.
He/She should be able to carry out the surgery with its variations and able to handle its complications.The hospital should have at least one complete set of laparoscopic equipment and instruments with accessories and should have facilities for open surgery i.e. after conversion from Laparoscopic surgery.

♦The hospital should have good dialysis unit neat, clean and hygienic with at least four good Haemodialysis machines with facility of giving bicarbonate Haemodialysis.
Hospital should have water-purifying unit equipped with reverse osmosis.
Unit should be regularly fumigated and they should perform regular antiseptic precautions.
Hospital should have trained dialysis Technician, Nursing staff and full time Nephrologist and Resident Doctors available to combat the complications during the dialysis.
Facility should be available 24 hours a day.

♦Should have easily reachable casualty preferably at the ground floor manned by trained and qualified doctors and para medical staff with the facilities to handle all the emergency cases.

♦The hospital should have their own infrastructure of radiology under same roof to carry out all the essential radiological investigation. Should have the portable x-ray unit and the USG doppler unit for non-ambulatory cases. CT and MRI under same roof are preferable.

♦The department should be manned by qualified and trained medical and paramedical staff.

♦The hospital should have minimum three tier facilities for indoor admission i.e. general ward, separate twin sharing room, single AC and Non-AC room and AC Deluxe room for the patients.

♦The hospital must have minimum two beds to handle and take care of the burn injuries.

♦Operation Theater: There should be minimum two separate O.T. In multi-speciality hospital to handle the different surgical emergencies. The OT should comply to standards laid down, compatible with the speciality concerned. It should have facilities of C-Arm, Laparoscopes and necessary infrastructure and equipments of anaesthesia as per the modern standard.

♦The hospital should have their own administrative office, finance department, PR department to handle respective responsibilities.

♦The hospital should have the valid registration with the competent authority of City and comply with their standards.

♦The hospital preferably should have a certificate of Income tax department for exemption of income-tax for different modality of treatment, wherever applicable.



♦The Hospital (Multi-speciality) should have their own in-house pharmacy with the facility of computerized billing.

♦They should have in-house pathology laboratory carrying out all the essential bio-chemistry, pathology and microbiology investigations.

♦They should have their own power back up system for uninterrupted power supply.

♦Tariff:
(a) The treatment charges limited to CGHS approved rates from time to time in locality or actual rates of hospital, WHICHEVER IS LESS.
(b) Full credit facility to existing employees and their eligible dependent family members is to be provided.

Taking specialized care to next level the award acknowledges a complete super-speciality care hospital which blends tradition with state-of-the-art and offers specialized yet affordable treatment.

Eligibilty

♦For the super speciality branches like, CARDIOLOGY, ORTHOPAEDIC, PAEDIATRICS, OPHTHALMOLOGY, ENT, GYNAECOLOGY, GENERAL SURGERY, NEPHROLOGY UNIT WITH DIALYSIS, DIABITIES AND ONCOLOGY, GASTRO ENTEROLOGY, following criteria are desired :-

♦Experience: Minimum 3 years post-qualification (Degree) experience in the field of the speciality out of which at least 2 years experience should be for running that particular hospital required to be empanelled.

♦Bed capacity: In context of Bed capacity the single speciality hospitals should be divided into two categories i.e. Super speciality major and Super speciality minor. The Super speciality major will consist of following speciality:Cadiology, Orthopaedic, Paediatrics, General Surgery, General Medicine, Gastro Enterology. The bed capacity for these branches should be minimum 30 beds. The Super speciality minor will consist of following speciality:ENT, Ophthalmology, Gynaecology, Nephrology with dialysis unit, Urology, Oncology and Diabetology. The bed capacity for these branches should be minimum 10 beds. The super speciality hospital as mentioned above should have infrastructures to handle the emergencies and critically ill patients in respective branches and the modern state of art gazettes to carry out the various procedures.

♦The medical and para-medical staff should be qualified and trained in respective speciality.

♦There should be one standard well equipped Operation Theater dealing with the concerned speciality. The super-speciality Hospitals, like, cardiology, gastro-enterology and neurology should comply with the standards laid down for the respective speciality. They should have their own cardiac cath lab., Operation theater compatible with cardiac surgeries, neuro-surgeries, endoscopy, ERCP, Laparoscopy etc.

♦The Hospital should have in-house all essential investigation facilities available for that particular speciality.

♦Should have easily reachable casualty preferably at the ground floor manned by trained and qualified doctors and para medical staff with the facilities to handle all the emergency cases.

♦The hospital should have the valid registration with the competent authority of the City and comply with their standards at any given time.

♦The hospital preferably should have a certificate of Income tax department for exemption of income-tax for different modality of treatment, wherever applicable.

♦Accommodation: The hospital should have minimum three tier facilities for indoor admission i.e. general ward, separate twin sharing room, single AC and Non-AC room and AC Deluxe room for the patients.

Eligibility

♦All hospitals can participate. Small and big hospitals have equal chances of winning because the awards are for the success of projects, programs or services that were implemented during the award period and not for overall excellence of the hospital. In this sense public and private hospitals, small and large ones too, have equal chances of winning.

♦Entries must be for projects, programs, or services that were implemented or significantly enhanced from January 2016 to June 2017. In this sense, the awards are for the introduction of new projects, or for the improvements in 2016/2017 of existing programs and systems. In general, the judges favor new projects than enhancements.

♦In all cases, there should be objective, quantifiable, and verifiable measurements as to the effectiveness of the project.

This award is for the hospital that implemented the most effective management innovations or improvements in its management systems policies and practices. (The basic functions of management, strategic directions and how management assures itself that it has control, feedback and improvement).

Criteria

The innovations can be in implementing or improving management policies, in setting goals and organizing to meet them. More weight will be given to innovations in how the hospital plans its services, manages its finances, motivates its staff and has developed an effective feedback /control and management review processes. The entry needs to demonstrate measurable results. Is there “visible” leadership to create the right mindset and values for a better patient experience?

♦The extent to which the project involves all levels of management and staff. Was there staff training at all levels?

Healthcare providers are increasingly recognizing the importance of technology as a tool to achieve their business targets and agendas. This award acknowledges hospitals for putting technology to most productive use.
Medical diagnostics and every area of hospital efficiency are seriously and increasingly technology dependent. How well is the hospital using Technology?

Criteria

Specifically this award is for the project or program the hospital implemented on better use of technology to improve the overall quality, safety and efficiency of the healthcare delivery system. More weight will be given not about how much was spent on medical equipment but how well the hospital is harnessing and embracing technology to the extent it can afford, and finding ways when it cannot afford. How technology is managed across different systems? Is digital information safe and secure? Does the system integrate requirements of patients, providers, government, insurers and other stakeholders? Does it improve healthcare productivity or efficiency? Does it prevent medical errors and increase accuracy? Does it improve efficiency and reduce paperwork?

Does the hospital seek the involvement of its stakeholders and community or does it merely provide resources? Does the hospital give of its management time and expertise? More weight is given to how meaningful it is to the community it serves in terms of preventive health and/or free services. Does the hospital have programs for environment protection, energy conservation and/or being green?

Scoring Factors

♦To what extent does the project make a difference in the improvement of healthcare in the community it serves?
♦The extent to which the hospital involves its management talent and expertise to improve healthcare in the community (as opposed to merely providing resources).
♦Does it have significant results or outcomes? Are these measurable? Are there testimonials, awards or other support to show impact on improvement of hospital service?
♦The extent the project is prevention oriented, and how well it will reduce or eliminate health care or other problems in the community. Will the benefits be long lasting and sustainable?

Projects or programs to keep a patient SAFE, such as use of right equipment, infection control, minimize slips and falls and prevention of sentinel events.

Criteria

 This award is for the hospital that introduced an outstanding project for the monitoring and assurance for safety in the diagnosis, and delivery of care. Projects for the reporting, deliberation, management, and prevention of Sentinel Events like wrong site surgery are included as part of this category. Medication errors, infection control are included. More weight is given to how much the project or program improved patient safety and if there are measurements to back this up. In other words, the judges will particularly look at the percentage of improvement. Was there therapeutic error reduction?

♦How well does the project assure patient safety and the prevention of sentinel events?
♦Is there significant improvement in patient safety after, as compared to before the project?
♦Does it have significant results or outcomes?  Are these measurable? Are there testimonials, awards, or other support to show impact on improvement of hospital service?

This category is for the medical or clinical side of “customer service”. Programs of patient centered care belong here as do those that demonstrate physician involvement and leadership.

Criteria

 A clinical practice improvement project that was successfully completed in any of the specialized (technical) areas of hospital management, such as Nursing, Laboratory, and Radiology or in specialty clinics such as eye center, kidney center, etc. The project should show measurable results of having improved diagnostics and treatment with little or no capital outlay.  More weight is given to projects where clinical outcomes are measured and how well are these measurements used – or how involved where the physicians in the project. Is there a program to improve the quality of the doctor-patient relationship? Is there a discernible focus on improving different aspects of the patient physician interaction?

Scoring Factors

♦Did the project improve the service of the hospital department or unit to its customers by way of better service, reduction of errors, reduced waiting time, and faster results?
♦Is it simple yet effective, something other departments can also adopt or adapt? Was there significant physician input?
♦Does it have significant results or outcomes?  Are these measurable? Are there testimonials, awards or other support to show impact on improvement of the department or unit's service?
♦The extent the project is prevention oriented, and how well it will reduce or eliminate the service defect. Will the benefits be long lasting?
♦Was the process and means by which the project was conducted adequate to meet its goals? Was the composition of the team about right? Were appropriate analysis tools used or was it only a matter of throwing money at the problem?

Nursing is at the center of all hospital activities. How well does the hospital improve this service?

Criteria

Nurses are at center of how the physicians and other hospital departments cooperate and coordinate services to serve the patient better. Nurses interpret, disperse and collect results of what the doctor ordered. They are the front line, and see the patient more often than any other service. More weight is given for a project or program that improves the patient experience because of improvements and innovations in how nursing care is delivered. Does the project help communication within departments of the hospital? Does it improve the patient experience? Does it reduce nursing or other error from any department? Does it lead to better patient well-being and comfort? Does it lead to better care, rendered faster?

Scoring Factors

♦The degree to which this is a nursing initiated and nursing led project to improve nursing service
♦Did the project bring to the team other departments who could contribute to its success?
♦Are the before and after measurements to show the project is working, and were these measurements relevant? 
♦Is there feedback from patients that show it to be so?
♦How well was patient safety, well-being and comfort served?

Eligibility

WHA aims to recognize the outstanding Institute in Medicine/ Dental/ Pharmacy/ Nursing / Health administration/ Physiotherapy and also this award recognizes institutes offering diploma/graduate/post-graduate courses. WHA for Best Institution will be awarded to an institution that has demonstrated exceptional performance in the past academic year.

(a) College/Institute must be functioning for at least 5 years.
(b) College/Institute must be affiliated to/ recognized by a statutory body of Government.
(c) College/Institute should have been accredited/ reaccredited to an official body during last five years on the date of application.
(d) College/Institute must have an approved Principal/Director.
(e) No legal action in terms of fine was sentenced/imposed on concerned College/Institute and also there is no serious enquiry pending against the concern College/Institute. The level of enquiry and related aspects of enquiry will be determined by the selection committee for the award.

This award is open to any large, small or medium sized, biopharma and biotech Pharmaceutical Company operating that develops produces, and markets drugs or pharmaceuticals.

Eligibility

The following pharma companies are eligible for application:

♦PHARMA COMPANY (LARGE): This award is open to any large Pharmaceutical company operating that develops, produces, and markets drugs or pharmaceuticals. We define a large company as one with over 250 employees.

♦PHARMA COMPANY (SME): This award is open to any small and medium-sized (SME) Pharmaceutical Company operating that develops, produces, and markets drugs or pharmaceuticals. We define a SME company as one with up to 249 employees.

♦BIOPHARMA COMPANY: This award is open to any organization involved in the production of pharmaceutical products manufactured in, extracted from, or semi synthesized from biological sources.

♦BIOTECH COMPANY: This award is open to any company or organization working on the cutting edge of biotechnology to develop medicines and pharmaceutical agents.

♦Business Growth: Detail the significant and specific activities that have contributed to business growth. This can include specific investment, financing or licensing deals, launch of product or expansion.

♦Operational Excellence: What has the company done to boost operational performance?

♦Innovativeness: Include details of any unique efforts or processes that have been employed, demonstrating the degree of innovation and commercial potential.

♦Societal impact: Outline the societal impact of any methods, products or projects you have developed.

♦Professional Standing and Accreditation: Outline any relevant industry achievements and accreditations.

This award recognizes initiatives which have led to institutionalizing high standards in the pharmaceutical value chain with respect to cost, quality, technology, productivity and processes.

♦Applications for the Award category “Operational Excellence” is open for all pharmaceutical companies operating.

♦The initiative/project has to be launched and operational on or after 1 July 2015

♦The initiative/project has to be launched and operational in the any market.

Objectives

The mission of the WHA Clinical Research Awards program is to award innovative research that is patient-oriented. For the purposes of these awards, patient-oriented research is defined as: (1) research conducted with human subjects; (2) research on new diagnostic and therapeutic interventions; (3) research on material of human origin such as tissues and specimens; and (4) research on drug development towards patient care. The goal of WHA Clinical Research Awards is to promote excellence within the research community.  While research that explores mechanisms of human disease is highly encouraged, the research projects should be translational in nature; i.e., has direct applicability to clinical care. In general, studies involving animals will not be considered unless the work cannot be done in humans.
